A basic Fedora 42 container does not have 'awk' installed, but it is
needed by Buildroot. First by check-host-python3.sh:

but then even building host-expat assumes awk is available:

Since it's a pretty basic tool, make it part of the tools checked by
dependencies.sh. One minor annoyance is that check-host-python3.sh is
executed *before* dependencies.sh does its thing, so when 'awk' is not
available, we end up seeing:
support/dependencies/check-host-python3.sh: line 6: awk: command not found
support/dependencies/check-host-python3.sh: line 19: awk: command not found
support/dependencies/check-host-python3.sh: line 19: awk: command not found

You must install 'awk' on your build machine

It would be nice to have the awk check *before* it gets used in
check-host-python3.sh, but that's a topic for another patch.

Recent versions of wget, starting with wget 2.0, aka wget2 thereafter,
no longer support FTP (nor FTPS, aka FTP-over-SSL). wget2 is packaged in
Fedora 40, recently released; F40 does not even have the old wget
available in its repository anymore.
Introduce cURL as a download backend, that we use for FTP and FPTS
protocols.
Note that the -q flag does not means being quiet; it means that a curlrc
file should not be parsed. The long option is --disable, which meaning
is not much more obivous than the short -q. It also has to be the first
option on the command line.

rsync is used in the infrastructure, mostly for the per-package infra,
and for the override-srcdir mechanism, but also to build the manual.
As such, it is not optional but mandatory, and already listed so.
Drop the reference to rsync from the list of optional packages.
