This toolset was designed to facilitate the testing, monitoring, and
tracing of various things with virtual memory, pages, and slab objects.
It is an invaluable resource for identifying and analyzing
memory-related issues, such as leaks and bottlenecks, and can greatly
enhance one's understanding of memory utilization within a system.
The mm toolset includes:
- page_owner_sort: userspace helper to sort the output of
/sys/kernel/debug/page_owner, which helps to know who allocates
the page from kernel context
- slabinfo: the tool which gets reports about slabs, for example
show empty slabs, modify of slab debug options at runtime, display
all information about a slabcache
- page-types: a handy tool for querying page flags

The RealTime Linux Analysis tool includes a set of commands that relies
on the osnoise and timerlat tracers from the ftrace kernel subsystem,
allowing to analyze the lantency sources coming from the hardware and
the kernel itself.
This tool was introduced in v5.17 but until v5.19 it relied on libprocps
that has been deprecated soon. So let's make it available for v5.19+.
Rtla relies on libtracefs and libtraceevent, although libtraceevent itself
is already a dependency for libtracefs.

This commit fixes the S10hyperv SysV init script which expects binaries
to be locate in /sbin while they are installed in /usr/sbin. Please
note, that the systemd init scripts correctly reference them.
Furthermore, the SysV init script did not check for an actual HyperV
environment to be present, which is also corrected. In addition, this
commit also fixes check-package warnings regarding a missing DAEMON
definition.

Since upstream Linux commit 6898e60f709b0047206110d3ec9f4612210e3ff7
("perf build: If libtraceevent isn't present error the build") present
in Linux 6.4 and newer, Linux will fail to build if libtraceevent is not
present. Since we do not currently have support for libtracevent in
buildroot, pass NO_LIBTRACEVENT=1 to get perf to build again.

("perf tests: Add test for PE binary format support") present in >=
v5.10 there is an unconditional installation of PE binaries.
Some toolchains have a readelf tool that correctly interpret the PE
files, and reports ELF-alike fields. This causes check-bin-arch to
reject those files.
Make sure that these binaries are excluded from being checked to allow
the installation of the perf tests.

Extend the linux-tools package to also build the userspace USB tools,
which currently include testusb and ffs-test.
These tools are in the kernel tree since a long time, and althogh a
Makefile had been present since kernel 2.6.39, it has been entirely
rewritten (with an install rule) back with kernel 5.9, to allow building
the same way as other tools provided with the kernel.
We make use of the Makefile install rule, thus version >= 5.9 is
required. Support for older kernels may be added later if needed, and
is left as an exercise for the motivated party.

Sub-options of a kconfig symbol are only preperly indented below that
sybol, if there is no inter-mixed sylbols or comments.
In this vase, the comment about perf being unavailable is in-between the
perf symbol and the sub-options, which means the perf options are int
indented.
Move the comment before the definition of perf, so that the options
directly follow the per fsymbol, and so they are properly indented.

Linux kernel commit 00facc760903 ("perf jevents: Switch build to use
jevents.py") switched to auto-generation of arch-specific PMU events
using python script. Now custom PMU events for different platforms of
the selected target architecture are not embedded into perf binary if
an appropriate host python interpreter is not present. In practice it
means that perf is successfully built, but 'perf list pmu' will show
no custom events on a target platform even if those events are supported
and properly defined in tools/perf/pmu-events/arch/<target arch>
directory in the kernel source tree.
Since building host-python3 is not instantaneous, add a config option,
like we have in the kernel for a bunch of host packages, to id=ndicate
that host-python3 is required, and only add the dependency in that case.

We are trying to not build the perf documentation. However, the hook
being used to do so was named incorrectly. As a result, the build steps
to disable the documentation were never executed.
Rename the hook from
LINUX_POST_PATCH_HOOKS
to
LINUX_TOOLS_POST_PATCH_HOOKS
to fix the issue.

In order to run the full gamut of "perf tests" installing the perf
scripts is required, otherwise we run into errors similar to those:
failed to open shell test directory: /usr/libexec/perf-core/tests/shell
Make this possible by introducing a new option allowing us to install
perf scripts.

gcc-12 is starting to trickle down to some distros, like Archlinux.
gcc-12 has new warnings, and detects more cases of issues, like new
UAF cases, which is causing build issues in code that was previously

Move the target bpftool build out of linux-tools so that it is
up to date.
This also fixes build issues due to differences between kernel
versions. The latest version should be fully backwards compatible.
The host bpftool is needed for enabling features such as the systemd
bpf-framework (to be added in a future patch).
Use the git download method to get the libbpf submodule.

The variable 'KERNEL_ARCH' is actually a normalized version of
'ARCH'/'BR2_ARCH'. For example, 'arcle' and 'arceb' both become 'arc', just
as all powerpc variants become 'powerpc'.
It is presumably called 'KERNEL_ARCH' because the Linux kernel is typically
the first place where support for a new architecture is added, and thus is
the entity that defines the normalized name.
However, the term 'KERNEL_ARCH' can also be interpreted as 'the architecture
used by the kernel', which need not be exactly the same as 'the normalized
name for a certain arch'. In particular, for cases where a 64-bit
architecture is running a 64-bit kernel but 32-bit userspace. Examples
include:
* aarch64 architecture, with aarch64 kernel and 32-bit (ARM) userspace
* x86_64 architecture, with x86_64 kernel and 32-bit (i386) userspace
In such cases, the 'architecture used by the kernel' needs to refer to the
64-bit name (aarch64, x86_64), whereas all userspace applications need to
refer the, potentially normalized, 32-bit name.
This means that there need to be two different variables:
KERNEL_ARCH: the architecture used by the kernel
NORMALIZED_ARCH: the normalized name for the current userspace architecture
At this moment, both will actually have the same content. But a subsequent
patch will add basic support for situations described above, in which
KERNEL_ARCH may become overwritten to the 64-bit architecture, while
NORMALIZED_ARCH needs to remain the same (32-bit) case.
This commit replaces use of KERNEL_ARCH where actually the userspace arch is
needed. Places that use KERNEL_ARCH in combination with building of kernel
modules are not touched.
There may be cases where a package builds both a kernel module as userspace,
in which case it may need to know about both KERNEL_ARCH and
NORMALIZED_ARCH, for the case where they differ. But this is to be fixed on
a per-need basis.

perf by itself is not a standalone package; instead, it is part of a
bigger package, linux-tools.
Even though perf is the only one to need kernel .config fixups, we still
do it in a generic way, as it blends nicely in the existing variables,
which all use a loop over all the tools.

perf auto-detects and uses the libbfd (from binutils) and openssl
libraries if they are detected and happen to be built before perf is,
but if they're not, or if per-package directories are enabled, it won't
detect these libraries. Explicitly add dependencies on these packages if
they are enabled, and disable the feature if not, so that the behavior
is deterministic.

The hyperv integration services offer convenience features for guest
operating systems running on the microsoft hyperv virtualization
platform. They roughly are for HyperV what openvmtools are for VMWare.
The installed binary names are derived from what seems common in large
distros like RedHat:
linux kernel source name -> installed binary name
hv_vss_daemon -> hypervvssd
hv_kvp_daemon -> hypervkvpd
hv_fcopy_daemon -> hypervfcopyd
Each tool was introduced at different points in the kernel history, so
we need to check each of them.
We provide a single init script that is responsible for starting all
enabled programs. The global status will be the status of the last
program to fail to start, or empty (i.e. success) if they all started
successfuly.
However, we provide one systemd unit per program, because it is not easy
to use a single unit to start (and monitor) more than one executable.
Additionally, we do not provide a template that is filled at tinstall
time either, because it does not gain much (three simple units vs. a
template and some replacement code in the .mk).
Finally, the key-value daemon uses a few helper scripts to get/set the
network config. All are optional (their presence is checked before
running them), but one, hv_set_ifconfig. However, it is not strictly
speaking required either, so we just symlink it to /bin/true to avoid
any warning at runtime. Providing actual helpers is left to the end
user, to adapt to their own environment.

Some linux tools (e.g. the Microsoft HyperV convenience utilities) will
install programs tostart at boot time, so they need to be able to
install init files (systemd units, sysv init script, or openrc units).
Unlike the other commands, we are redefining the real _INSTALL_INIT_*
macros, rather than use hooks, to let the infra call those at the right
moment.
We must be careful about the openrc support, though: if two tools are
enabled, one which provides sysv scripts but no openrc config, and the
other which provides openrc config, and we are using openrc as init
system, then we want to use the sysv scripts from the former as well as
the openrc config of the latter. Thus we need to duplicate a bit the
openrc logic here.

Since Linux 3.10, perf's NO_NEWT configuration option simply sets
NO_SLANG=1 and there is no dependency on libnewt.
We already handle NO_SLANG correctly based on whether or not
BR2_PACKAGE_SLANG is selected, so all we accomplish by setting NO_NEWT=1
is disabling perf's TUI when all of the dependencies are available.
To simplify all of this, introduce a new config option to enable the
perf TUI which depends on slang and add a check to prevent building the
TUI on versions which are too old. The check for NO_SLANG is equivalent
to checking if NO_NEWT is required as NO_SLANG was added in the same
commit that removed the libnewt dependency and deprecated NO_NEWT
(6692c262df4f, "perf tools: Remove dependency on libnewt", 2013-03-28).

Make inclusion ordering of all linux-tool-*.mk sub-makefiles explicit
instead of relying on alphabetical sort order. This is done by
renaming the Linux tools sub-makefiles to the format linux-tool-*.mk.in.
This causes the top-level Makefile to ignore the Linux tools
sub-makefiles.
Until now, the main Makefile included all linux-tool-*.mk files, as
well as linux-tools.mk, and it relied on alphabetical sorting to
include them in the proper order (linux-tool-*.mk before
linux-tools.mk).
